Abstract: Knowledge structuring is a key phase in development of intelligent systems and distance learning. The described methodology of intelligent systems design uses a modern conceptual visualization paradigm. The technology of adaptive tutoring systems is also considered. These systems can promptly reconstruct learning scenarios on the basis of learning objects and visual conceptual graphs or atlases.

Keywords: knowledge engineering, learning ontologies, intelligent tutoring systems.
