Abstract: The main goal of this paper is to address the numerical solution of the problem of fluid-structure interaction between blood and arterial walls. We use one-dimensional effective model derived asymptotically from the Navier–Stokes equations describing blood flow and the linear elastic membrane equation for arterial walls. In this study we consider case with bifurcated compliant arteries with inserted prosthesis. We use the derived model to estimate the influence of a shear stress on the developing of atherogenesis.
