Quantitative diffusion magnetic resonance imaging in vivo

K. A. Ilyasov

Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University

Abstract: The paper deals with physical and mathematical basics for diffusion weighted MR imaging and analysis. Different sources of image distortions and corresponding methods of their correction are discussed. When accurately measured, quantitative diffusion parameters can indicate pathologies in tissue microstructure and serve as a clinical diagnostic tool for different diseases such as, for example, white matter degeneration.

Keywords: nuclear magnetic resonance, MRI, diffusion weighted MRI, diffusion tensor MRI, diffusion tensor, eddy currents distortions, correction of distortions, quantitative analysis, measurement calibration.
