A means of communication of distance sensors with the managerial system of a crane to uplift cargo from drilling platforms to a ship during rough sea

Abstract: It is necessary to apply soft cargo loading by means of a crane to service and repair drilling platforms during rough sea. Requirements to the communication system between sensors and controller are stated in the paper. Since the positioning system will be set on the ship just before cargo loading, then it was decided to use completely wireless connection of all components to reduce the time for cargo operations. The functional scheme of sensors connection with the managerial system of electric drive is presented. The most famous wireless technologies (Wi-Fi, Wi-Max, Bluetooth, Wireless USB) and a comparatively new technology (ZigBee), which was initially developed with the orientation on industrial application, are analyzed. The brief overview of the solutions in the field of wireless data transmission using ZigBee-modules from the largest producers is given. A ready ZigBee-module from the company Panasonic, PAN802154HAR00, was chosen beforehand to use it in the managerial system of electric drive.
