Abstract: The movement of vehicles on the communication can be modeled in different ways. We can distinguish microscopic and macroscopic models and their combinations. Microscopic models describe the detailed behavior of individual vehicles and their interactions, macroscopic models study the traffic flow similarly to fluid flow in a tube. This paper provides a comparison of the two main approaches when solving simple situation on the road. Macroscopic model uses numerical methods for solving partial differential equations describing the situation to solve the problem while microscopic simulation model is based on behavior of individual vehicles. The aim is to compare the dynamics of traffic density in a given part of the road and time obtained with the help of the described models. The results show that the models are comparable.

Keywords: density, flow function, velocity, simulation, traffic, multiagent modeling.
