Abstract: The design scheme for the study of transverse vibrations of the marine propeller shafts is being tested. Three variants of bearing and loading are considered. The obtained results allow us to investigate both the natural frequency and type of vibrations. In order to automate the numerical experiments, three computer programs implemented in the algorithmic language Maple are developed. The numerical experiments using the developed programs for specific vessels are made. The analysis of the results of the numerical experiments helped determine that the propeller shaft bearings compliance reduces its natural frequency; dynamic loads of the running propeller can significantly change the shafting alignment and lead to dynamic instability shafting. The obtained solutions can be used independently to determine the natural frequency and type of vibrations of the structures, the designed schemes of which are similar to those considered in this paper.

Keywords: shafting, transverse vibrations, natural frequency, type of vibrations, numerical experiment.
