Abstract: The design and development of high-performance computational software for the extreme metocean event simulation are considered. A performance model for this problem is proposed. A dependence between the parallel efficiency and the software architecture characteristics is examined. The paper was prepared on the basis of the authors' report at the International Conference on Parallel Computing Technologies (PaVT-2008; http://agora.guru.ru/pavt).

Keywords: parallel computing, software packages, climate simulation, parallel computing systems.
