Abstract: Problems of underground fluid mechanics associated with the movement of fluids in the pores and cracks of rocks are of interest due to the exploitation of oil fields as well as the long-term pumping of liquid to provide the urban population with water or because of drainage of territories prior to construction. One of the parameters that affects the stress-strain state of fluid-saturated rock massifs is the pore pressure transfer coefficient that determines a portion of the pore pressure that is transferred on the rock. In this paper a theoretical method for determining this coefficient is developed using the averaging method. This technique is demonstrated by means of a finite-element implementation. The transfer coefficient dependence on the soil porosity, pore shape, elastic properties of a rock is analyzed.

Key words: pore pressure transfer coefficient, porous soil, effective stress.
