Abstract:
A mathematical model of a catamaran with a wind turbine is considered. It consists of the body, the wind propeller and the water screw. The wind propeller transforms the energy of wind to the energy of rotation and transmits it by a transmission system to the water screw that creates the thrust force. The superiority of this force over the sum of the sailing resistance of the wind propeller and the hydrodynamic resistance of the body provides the acceleration ability in the opposite wind direction. We assume that there is a possibility to change the transmission coefficient by a system of shafts connecting the wind propeller and the water screw. We study the steady-state regimes of motion, analyze their stability and determine the parameters ensuring the highest speed of the catamaran against the wind.
