Igor V. Pottosin. From the history of Novosibirsk school of programming

Abstract: The paper dwells on the biography of prof. Igor V. Pottosin (21.02.1933–15.12.2001), whose eightieth anniversary is celebrated this year. Igor Pottosin was a junior research fellow in the Programming department of the Institute of Mathematics of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences from its early foundation in 1957. He was a participant of many well-known software projects – Alpha Automatic Programming System, Multy-Language Compiler Constructing System BETA, symbolic processing system Sigma, timesharing system AIST-0, etc. In 1990-ties, his research activity also covered the problems of embedded software. He was one of the founders of the Novosibirsk State University programming department. In 1993, he became the first head of this department. In 1992–1998, he was also a director of the Institute of Informatics Systems.
