Method of brightness projection for detection of pupil position in iris image

Abstract: A method of fast (four elementary operations per one pixel) detection of pupil position in iris image is proposed. The method is based on estimating brightness projections of binarized image onto horizontal and vertical axes and determining maxima coordinates. Despite its simplicity, the method demonstrates high robustness for known image databases and can be applied in systems of iris image registration, where high processing speed is necessary.
