A Hamiltonian interpretation of the Volterra model

A new Hamiltonian formulation of the Volterra model originally suggested by L. D. Faddeev and L. A. Iakhtajan is presented. Connections with the quantum inverse problem method and conformally invariant field theory are discussed.
