Abstract: A procedure for the calculation of nonsteady hydrodynamic flows with narrow thermal layers is described. It is used for the simulation of high speed heating by friction under the shock compression of a plate on a wedge.

Key words: time-dependent hydrodynamic flows, shock wave, friction.
