Abstract: The discrete sources method is adapted to analyze the scattered energy distribution in the entire space in the problem of diffraction by an inhomogeneity in a film. The relation between extraordinary optical transmission through a nanometric film and surface plasmon resonance is studied numerically. It is shown that these phenomena are closely correlated.

Key words: discrete sources method, numerical experiment, extraordinary optical transmission, nanometric film, surface plasmon resonance.
