On the monotonization of finite-difference solutions for shock-capturing methods

An algorithm monotonizing the solutions obtained by the MacCormack difference scheme is discussed. The noteworthy improvement in the accuracy of the description of gasdynamic discontinuities is demonstrated by the example of the simplest plane discontinuities of supersonic flows.
