Abstract: An approximate mathematical model for the process of high-frequency induction heating of cylindrical steel specimens is presented. The problem of determining the density of the heat sources and the temperature of the field within the specimen is solved by the regularization concept with additional information about the temperature on the surface of the specimen. The dependence of the thickness of the hardened layer on the parameters of the hardening process is studied.
