Application of flow theory to a problem of the dynamics of a viscous stratified fluid

Abstract: A difference scheme, constructed on the basis of flow theory, intended for the numerical investigation of problems in the dynamics of a viscous incompressible stratified fluid, is proposed. The results of a systematic study of the collapse of a homogeneous “patch” located in a fluid with stable stratification obtained by using this difference scheme are presented. A comparison with existing numerical and experimental data is given and conclusions on the parameters of the computational mesh, necessary for a numerical study of the problem, are drawn.
