The methods of algebraic geometry and Galois theory are sucsessfully applied to the problem of birational classification of linear algebraic groups. Smooth projective models of algebraic tori are constructed and studied using the construction of vertex in the lattices of rational characters. The cohomological birational invariants of algebraic tori of low dimension are calculated. Standard integral model of algebraic torus is studied. This model is determined in invariant way and has finite type. The properties of the model are established. The research will be continued.
