About my father. Polyakhov Nikolay Nikolaevich (17.12.1906-27.01.1987)

Abstract: Polyakhov N.N. was Honored Scientist of the RSFSR, doctor of technical sciences, professor. He graduated from the Physico-mathematical Faculty of Moscow State University in 1929. From 1930 to 1933 he worked as the main employee under the direction of academician S.A. Chaplygin, in Theoretical Department of Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI), and up to 1941 as a part-time worker. From February 1933, Nikolai Nikolayevich worked at the same time, at the Department of theoretical mechanics of Leningrad state University and at the Department of hydro-aerodynamics in Leningrad Polytechnic Institute. In 1933 he was approved in the rank of associate professor, and in 1937 in the degree of candidate of technical sciences. He stayed in Leningrad during the blockade, continued lecturing, and worked in the military organizations. He was an author of 62 scientific papers on theoretical mechanics and hydromechanics. In 1948 he defended his doctoral thesis on "The Vortex Theory of the screw propeller with a finite number of blades." He was a professor of the Department of hydro-aerodynamics in Central Aero-Hydrodynamic Institute from 1950 to 1953; a head of the Department of theoretical mechanics of Leningrad state University from 1953 to 1977; a Dean of the faculty of mathematics and mechanics from 1955 to 1965; a head of the Department of hydro-aeromechanics of Leningrad State University from 1977 to 1987. He was awarded two Orders of Lenin, Order of the Red Banner of Labor and medals.
