A short history of Waring’s problem J. Sesiano |
|||
Abstract: The history of Waring’s problem is indeed strange. Normally, be in mathematics or in common life, people assume that a certain time is necessary to solve a problem. Not here. Euler’s son Johann Albrecht solved it in the same time Waring formulated it independently. But for the solution, two more centuries were necessary. For this, computing humans and machines were involved. |
