Abstract: An algebraic variety is said to be rational if it admits a parametrization by rational algebraic functions. In general, the question whether a given variety is rational or not is a complicated classical problem. In this talk, I will review the current state of the problem. In particular, some methods of proving non-rationality will be discussed. |
