Abstract:
Saint-Petersburg Paradox is a probabilistic problem, which has played an important role for a development of Mathematics (it is the first historical example of a random variable with infinite expectation) and of Economics (it is a forerunner of the theory of the expected utility). The report will be devoted to the history of this problem and its interpretations as well as to its link to the Imperial Petersburg Academy of Science and its importance to the economic theory and financial speculations.
