Abstract: Pafnutiy Lvovich Chebyshev (1821-1894) is known primarily as an outstanding mathematician who made a significant contribution to the development of number theory, probability theory, theory of functions, and theory of mechanisms. However, Chebyshev was not only a scientist, he took part in the development of reforms in secondary and higher education, drew up teaching programs, reviewed educational and methodological literature in mathematics.
