Abstract: The traditional form of the full-text scientific article in electronic form is a PDF file, which is a full copy of the print version of the publication. Starting from 2010, there has been a steady trend among leading Western scientific journal publishers to represent full-text scientific articles in an interactive HTML format. Unlike PDF, the HTML version of the article provides readers with advanced functionality and allows better structuring of material, interactive navigation, dynamic and multimedia add-ons, reading convenience on various devices. Currently HTML versions of scientific publications are available on Elsevier, Springer, IOP Publishing and other platforms. In Russia, HTML-publication support is being developed in information systems Math-Net.Ru, Russian Centre for Science Information, Keldysh Institute of Applied Mathematics and CoLab. The main way to create an HTML version is by forming a full text XML file. JATS XML is a unified markup format allowing creation both HTML and PDF versions of scientific publications, as well as exchange metadata. Steklov Mathematical Institute is the publisher of 9 Russian and 3 English scientific journals. The publication layout is traditionally done in LaTeX. To prepare HTML-versions of full text articles a converter from LaTeX files into JATS XML and an XSLT transformation template were developed. HTML-versions of the Russian and English version articles are available on the All-Russian portal Math-Net.Ru starting from 2021. English language XML files of mathematical journals, available on the Springer platform, are being prepared. In the talk we show examples of HTML-versions of scientific publications of Russian and foreign publishers, we consider advantages and disadvantages of HTML- and PDF-versions, we describe our method for converting LaTeX-files into JATS XML on the example of the mathematical journal articles.
