Abstract:
Studies in the history of any science acquaint us with the subject matter and methods of this science, periods of its development, main authors, sources and descriptive catalogs, history of the basic ideas and concepts, and a general picture of their development. The history of mathematics as a science of the objective laws of the development of mathematics, has its own history of development worthy of study too.
The report focuses on the history and development of the very history of mathematics in Russia, beginning with the first Russian translations of ancient classics. Fundamental works of Western scholars on the history of science, domestic thematic descriptive catalogs of Russian authors in the field of historical and mathematical research are considered. The review concludes with a brief analysis of the general state of the history of mathematics to the beginning of the XX century.
