On the works on analytical mechanics at the department of theoretical and applied mechanics of Saint Petersburg State University during the 70-year period (1950−2020). The general Chebyshev problem.
Abstract:
The lecture presents a brief review of the works on analytical mechanics performed at the department from its foundation to this day. The main focus is on the period of 1950−2020. The author considers the formulation and solution of the general Chebyshev problem to be the great achievement of “the Polyakhov school” on analytical mechanics. Actually, a new class of problems in the control theory is introduced by such a formulation. For their successful solution, the theory of motion of non-holonomic systems with high-order constraints which has been developed at the department of theoretical and applied mechanics for many years is offered to be used.
