Abstract: Hematopoiesis, the complex process of blood cell formation, is regulated by intricate interactions between stem cells, progenitor cells, and the bone marrow microenvironment. Mathematical modeling offers powerful tools to explore the dynamics of this system, providing insights into both normal and pathological conditions such as leukemia or bone marrow failure. In this seminar, we will present different models of hematopoiesis, including partial differential equations and agent-based approaches. Emphasis will be placed on the role of feedback regulation, lineage commitment, and spatial structure. The seminar aims to highlight how mathematical models contribute to our understanding of hematopoietic regulation, support the interpretation of experimental data, and guide therapeutic strategies.
