Abstract: Despite the almost 100-year era of active development of color perception research methods, many questions remain unanswered, here are just a few of them: "How does a person perceive the difference between colors?", "How does the color space work?", "Is it possible to create a universal model of color perception or even color images entirely?".
Part of the difficulty in answering these questions lies in the lack of accumulated phenomenological knowledge about the behavior of the visual system. To eliminate the latter, a new acoustic-optical colorimeter is being created on the basis of the Color Reproduction and Synthesis Sector, which will allow us to study the thresholds of color discrimination in especially bright and saturated areas, where previously it was impossible.
The report will describe the properties and device of the new colorimeter, and discuss the research plan and methods for collecting data on threshold color discrimination. In the final part of the report, mathematical sketches will be offered on the prospects of using color difference functions to train computational photography algorithms.
After the presentation, interested listeners are invited to the laboratory to familiarize themselves with the new colorimeter.
