Abstract: The Klein paradox is a phenomenon involving the emergence of current in a vacuum under the influence of a strong electric field. We will examine this phenomenon in three different scenarios: a constant field, a field that is switched on, and a field of finite duration, and compare the resulting expressions for the currents. It will also be shown that the resulting current significantly depends on the initial state of the field, and that there exists an initial state for which the current is absent.
