From the history of domestic naval science

G. V. Pavilaynen

Abstract: The talk examines the emergence and development of the exact and natural sciences related to the exploration of the World Ocean. Maritime science encompasses many areas of development, such as shipbuilding, maneuvering and navigation, and naval science. It is impossible to provide a comprehensive overview within the scope of a single report, so the emphasis is on the history of the creation of wooden sailing ships and the development of scientific theories about strength, stability, and balance on water, which arose in ancient times and were fully developed in the mid-18th to early 19th centuries. The report discusses the influence of global experience on the development of domestic shipbuilding science and the achievements of the great Bernoulli, Bouguer (Pierre Bouguer), Euler, Chapman (Fredrik Henrik af Chapman), Musschenbroek (Pieter (Petrus) van Musschenbroek) and many famous mathematicians, mechanics and naval engineers.
