The kinetic metric in Abelian Higgs models on compact Riemann surfaces

Using adiabatic approximation we can describe the motion of vortices in Abelian Higgs models on compact Riemannn surfaces in the critical case by geodesics of the metric that is given by the kinetic energy of the model. The properties of this metric will be discussed.
