Locating Ruelle resonances

Ruelle resonances can be expressed either in terms of the Laplace transform of the correlation functions or as point spectrum of the Ruelle Transfer operator. While the first point of view is closer to what can be measured observing the system, the latter is much more efficient for the mathematical investigation. Unfortunately, there are no general techniques to identify precisely the point spectrum. I will present an approach that can provide some information and can be applied in a variety of hyperbolic dynamical systems. The approach is not really new, as traces of it can be found already in Ruelle's original work, yet it appears that it was never explored or presented systematically.
