Dimension and Brown representability

Rouquier and Orlov have studied the notion of dimension in derived categories, the number of mapping cones needed to contruct one object from another. Bondal and Van den Bergh were the first to notice this had some relation with Brown representability. I'll describe some recent progress, and highlight how little we know.
