Аннотация: A Heegaard splitting of a 3-manifold is a decomposition into two handlebodies that intersect along their boundaries. The long standing classification problem is to exhibit for each closed 3-manifold a complete list, without duplication, of all its irreducible Heegaard splittings up to isotopy.
